Our latest spot status

I emailed Nikki the other day to see what our place was since I thought with the recent changes to the wait for a girl that some people may have switched to being open to a boy. She said we are now #25 on the list. Plus they just got another infant girl yesterday, so maybe we are actually number 24 now.

Parent Ed on 6/11

The last meeting was geared towards father's day and they had 4 adoptive dads talk about their various experiences as being fathers, in particular how it related to being a father of an adopted child. One talked about he knows his kids are his kids whether they are adopted or not (he had one bio and one adopted). Another talked about how he wrote journals for both of his adopted Chinese daughters during his wait to get bring them home. Another talked about how wonderful it was for him to be involved in the labor of the creation of his family way more than he thought he could if his wife was pregnant. All of the fathers were of different ages, one was 25 and had decided to adopt a special needs daughter after winning money on Jeopardy (how cool is that?!) and another was in the late 50s with a 2 and a 4 year old. One of them sort of dragged on, but the speakers were all pretty good and thought provoking and a great way to think about father's day.

a whole year already 6/19/07

Well it has been more than a year since we ever thought of adopting or even since we sent in our application, but it has been exactly a year since we were approved with our adoption agency. And to think when we started we were told 9-10 months for a boy and 20-22 for a girl and even if we wanted a boy we wouldn't be done. Things change, the Vietnam program has boomed in size and does seem like a good place to stay, it's just the waiting is so hard.

Another month bites the dust 6/14

Well yesterday was another month under our belt. 7 months of waiting gone by. No real news really, still the 24+ month wait. We spent yesterday evening at an event at the Community America Ballpark and Shawn got to go around the bases and eat dinner in the outfield. I'll write again soon.

Summer CHI Picnic 6/3/07

Yesterday was the annual CHI Kansas City area picnic. They have it at Heritage Park in Olathe and it was one of the first events we did last year. Last year Shawn and Dave's photo was taken and in the Kansas City Star even. This year no newspaper, but still lots of fun. Shawn loved the playground. There was plenty of food and we actually knew/recognized people this year. Shawn played on a little trampoline, with a jump rope and he got his face painted, all provided by CHI and their volunteers. He chose to have Elmo and he was actually quite patient waiting for his turn and then while she painted it on.
