Christmas Party 12/3

Yesterday Dave was feeling pretty crummy, so he decided not to go to the Christmas party. But Shawn and I braved the cold and headed to the high school it was being held at. It was a great big place and there were a lot of children. Most families there seemed to already have adopted children, but that didn't matter to me. We sat with a lady and her daughter who had been adopted from Vietnam 4 years ago. They were really friendly and Shawn and her daughter, Melia, got along really well. They were off running around together most of the time. Another family with a daughter a month younger than Shawn from China who is waiting for a second daughter also sat at our table and spoke a little bit too.
There was a ton of food, although Shawn seemed too busy to eat any of it, games that we didn't participate in, arts and crafts, where Shawn made a nativity scene out of stickers and managed to put both Mary and the manger upside down, and a visit from Santa.
Shawn refused to sit on Santa's lap until I reminded him that his friend had sat on Santa's lap so it was ok. Then he obliged me by sitting for a couple pictures, of course he smiled in neither.
They also had a raffle where all the money went to a family whose adopted daughter is currently in Children's Mercy Hospital not doing too well. We didn't win anything, but it seemed like a good thing to support.
It was a fun time.
